After learning about different cultures last week, Ms. Baylee’s first grade had a guest speaker to talk to them about Native American culture. Ms. Hailey Needham is a member of the Chippewa Indian Tribe from the Bad River Band of Lake Superior in Wisconsin and was kind enough to bring some traditional tribal garments and an assortment of artifacts to share with the class.

At Hillcrest School District, we’ve set an attendance goal for students: no more than 2 absences each 9-weeks. We know that every day in school counts — missing class means missed learning, missed connections, and missed opportunities. Research shows that students who attend regularly achieve at higher levels. To help students and families reach this goal, we’ve put together a helpful presentation with tips you can use. Let’s make attendance a priority—because showing up is your first step toward success. https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1LmZn1PGCPV2xAfMCPc12Fs_TLKXoQ3RfetV_rFaK_yQ/edit?usp=drivesdk

🎉 Congratulations to Mr. Randy Story and the Hillcrest High School Media Program! 🎉

Mr. Story and his talented media students represented Hillcrest High School at the Ozark Media Arts Festival in Springdale, AR last Tuesday and Wednesday — and they brought home Video Program of the Year and Photography Program of the Year! These awards were earned in competition with schools from Arkansas, Texas, Missouri, and Oklahoma.

In addition, Mr. Story was recognized as the festival’s Teacher of the Year for his outstanding dedication and leadership.

To top off an incredible week, Mr. Story was surprised Thursday morning with the KAIT8 Teacher of the Month award! His feature will air on October 28th — be sure to tune in! 📺

We are incredibly proud and blessed to have such an amazing educator inspiring our students and representing our district so well. 🙌🎥📸

Wow! What an incredible response to our Red, White, and Blue Game! Thanks to our amazing community, we raised over $1,000 and collected a huge table full of donations for our school’s Backpack Program. Your generosity will go a long way in helping meet the needs of students across our district. ❤️💙

Thank you!
Beginning with this years junior class, all 9-11 graders will need 75 hours of community service to graduate high school. While Hillcrest High School will provide some opportunities for community service, students are also encouraged to participate in community service opportunities outside of school. Please note that when the school shares community service opportunities, students are not required to participate—it is up to each student and their parents or guardians to decide which activities to join. Community service hours can begin during the summer after students complete 8th grade. To receive credit, students must complete and return a Community Service Log to the high school office each semester. The log should include the activity, the number of hours served, and the signature of the supervising adult. https://docs.google.com/document/d/1mtGvJwSTyAI85YVXskx-Z34wo0SwM06q6fXUQldzaXA/edit?usp=drivesdk

The Lawrence County Cooperative Extension Service presented their pumpkin program to Hillcrest 6th graders on Tuesday and Wednesday. Students learned all kinds of fascinating pumpkin facts and estimated the number of seeds their pumpkins possibly had. They weighed their pumpkins, measured its height, and found their pumpkin's circumference. Finally, students got their hands dirty and counted the pumpkin seeds to see if their estimates were correct.

Sawyer Hill competed today in the Overall State Golf Championship at Pleasant Valley Country Club in Little Rock. The event was as close to a PGA event as a high school player could get. The course was very challenging but in awesome condition. This was a very special event, and we are proud he was a part of it. Congrats to Sawyer on a great golf season. See the comments of facebook for a video.
